Palacios High School’s WIT and POWER SET Students Host the 5th annual Science on Saturday

Palacios High School's WIT and POWER SET students hosted the 5th annual Science on Saturday (SOS) on February 27th. The event, sponsored by the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI), highlighted fun and educational science experiments and demonstrated by PHS WIT and POWER SET students. SOS is an exciting science program for the young and young at heart, presented free of charge to all who attend. Sweeny High School POWER SET Participates in "Women in Industry" Conference

On Friday, February 19th, members of Sweeny High School POWER SET participated in the first annual "Women in Industry" conference at The Galvez Hotel in Galveston. The day-long conference introduced POWER SET members to the opportunities available for women in the petrochemical industry. It was a day of motivation, success stories, career strategies and networking. Palacios POWER SET and Power GRID Build Bridges

On Friday, February 19th, Palacios POWER SET members and their mentees in Power GRID gathered at the Texas State Marine Education Center to participate in an engineering centered activity with the goal of building an aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound small-scale bridge out of a small amount of supplies, including popsicle sticks, straws, and tape. Bay City High School POWER SET visits Texas A&M

Bay City High School POWER SET members traveled to College Station February 12-13 to learn more about the genetics industry and to visit colleges of interest at Texas A&M University. The ladies visited a technology business which mainly works with dairy cattle, deer and goats in genetics studies. Then the students toured Texas A&M University to see the dorms, campus and colleges in which they were interested. They also learned more about college requirements and financial aid. Sweeny High School POWER SET “Dress for Success” Program

On Monday, January 25, 2016, Page Parkes Vice President and SHS Alumni, Tabitha Pagel Garcia, presented a "Dress for Success" program to Sweeny High School POWER SET. Tabitha discussed proper dress for interviews as well as how to prepare for unexpected interview questions including taking a speech class, studying improv, or just practice role playing. She also discussed the importance of proper jewelry and makeup for interviews.
