C-MORE Visits UT

On Friday, April 13th, the C-MORE (Counselors Making Occupational Readiness Exciting) group participated in several activities at the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. They attended a meeting with career coaches from the Career Design Center, visited with undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) students, and held conversations with instructors who concentrate on freshmen success initivies. On Thursday, April 12th, POWER SET members Katherine Cantu, Arianna Galvan, Lindsey Phillips, and Michelle Olmstead attended a lecture given by Dr. David Baltimore and Dr. Alice Huang at Rice University as part of the James A. Van Vleck High School WIT Members "Zip" through the Austin Area

VVHS WIT members enjoyed an Easter Weekend STEM visit to the Austin area. The trip began with a hiking tour of Canyon Gorge on Canyon Lake. In 2002, a flood event occurred in which water ran over the spillway for six weeks washing away soil, rocks and trees and revealing a gorge filled with unique geological formations, lagoons, waterfalls, dinosaur tracks, and diverse marine fossils. A Malaysian delegation visited Comanche Peak on Feb. 23 as part of their trip to the USA to collect information for preparing a workforce to operate a nuclear power plant.
