Van Vleck WIT and POWER SET Lend a Hand at the Coastal Expo

Van Vleck High School WIT and POWER SET members spent a day helping spark an interest in science in elementary students at the Coastal Expo on May 11. Over 500 elementary students participated in activities at Matagorda Bay Nature Park designed to teach them about Texas Coastal Ecosystems, why they are important, and how we can protect them. The event was sponsored by Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). POWER SET Members Awarded Phillips 66 Scholarships

Three 2012 graduating POWER SET members have recently been chosen to receive a $1000 Scholarship from Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery. NPI takes great pride in announcing this honor. High School STEM Teachers to Receive an Engineering Experience

Heidi Elliott, El Campo High School math teacher, and Doug Ogletree, chemistry and biology teacher at Glen Rose High School, will spend 4 weeks at TAMU learning how to introduce engineering concepts to their students, increase student awareness of engineering, and encourage students to consider an engineering career. NPI Hosts Summer 2012 E3 Preparation Workshop

Glen Rose High School POWER SET and WIT Members Visit Comanche Peak

On April 4, Glen Rose High School students visited Comanche Peak for a plant tour. The students are a part of the POWER SET (Powerful Opportunities for Women Eager and Ready for Science, Engineering and Technology) and WIT (Workforce Industry Training) mentoring programs sponsored by the Nuclear Power Institute.
