NPI Hosts Summer 2012 E3 Preparation Workshop

On April 28, NPI hosted its 2012 E3 (Enrichment Experiences in Engineering Program) Preparation Workshop.  The purpose of the  workshop was to provide E3 participants - secondary math/science teachers and preservice teachers - an opportunity to gain reparatory  information about the upcoming TAMU E3 program and to meet fellow NPI outreach  program and industry colleagues.  Teachers selected  by NPI to participate in the E3 program will spend 4 weeks at TAMU learning how  to introduce engineering concepts to their students, increase stud...

Glen Rose High School POWER SET and WIT Members Visit Comanche Peak

On April 4, Glen Rose High School students visited Comanche Peak for a plant tour. The students are a part of the POWER SET (Powerful Opportunities for Women Eager and Ready for Science, Engineering and Technology) and WIT (Workforce Industry Training) mentoring programs sponsored by the Nuclear Power Institute. C-MORE Visits UT

On Friday, April 13th, the C-MORE (Counselors Making Occupational Readiness Exciting) group participated in several activities at the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. They attended a meeting with career coaches from the Career Design Center, visited with undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) students, and held conversations with instructors who concentrate on freshmen success initivies. On Thursday, April 12th, POWER SET members Katherine Cantu, Arianna Galvan, Lindsey Phillips, and Michelle Olmstead attended a lecture given by Dr. David Baltimore and Dr. Alice Huang at Rice University as part of the James A. Van Vleck High School WIT Members "Zip" through the Austin Area

VVHS WIT members enjoyed an Easter Weekend STEM visit to the Austin area. The trip began with a hiking tour of Canyon Gorge on Canyon Lake. In 2002, a flood event occurred in which water ran over the spillway for six weeks washing away soil, rocks and trees and revealing a gorge filled with unique geological formations, lagoons, waterfalls, dinosaur tracks, and diverse marine fossils.
