STUDENT HIGHLIGHT: Van Vleck POWER SET Member Attends Lott Leadership Institute at Ole Miss

Van Vleck High School POWER SET member Tiera Williams spent her last summer of high school surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the country attending the Lott Leadership Institute at the University of Mississippi. The senior was selected as one of only 50 nationwide accepted to participate in the special program designed to develop leadership skills in young students to prepare them for college. NRC Commissioner Bill Magwood Visits NPI

Commissioner William D. Magwood, IV from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission visited Texas A&M on August 3. The primary purpose of his visit was to address twenty-nine individuals from Kenya who were participating in a one-month workshop on nuclear energy organized by the A&M Nuclear Power Institute and sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Government of Kenya. Commissioner Magwood stressed the importance of a strong independent nuclear regulatory authority as a pre-requisite for the safe use of nuclear energy. Jacquelyn Wilson is a 2012 graduate of Sweeny High School. Jacquelyn was a very active member in POWER SET and proudly represented Sweeny High School and her community in many ways. Jacquelyn was the Student Advisor for POWER SET, the National Honor Society Treasurer and a member of the student council. E3 Program Helps Teachers Bring Engineering Concepts into the Classroom

The Nuclear Power Institute sponsored two high-school teachers to participate in this year's Enrichment Experiences in Engineering (E3) Program during the month of June in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. The teachers were Heidi Elliott from El Campo High School and Doug Ogletree from Glen Rose High School. The E3 Program brought a total of 15 STEM teachers from all over Texas to College Station to spend four weeks participating in real world engineering and science research.
