C-MORE Members Visit Sweeny Refinery

In November 2012, educators from Wharton County Jr. College and local school districts visited Sweeny Refinery. Their mission was to learn more about careers in refining so they could increase student awareness and encourage students to consider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers. Careers in operations, crafts, engineering and business were discussed and the educators participated in job shadowing with refinery employees to experience refinery jobs first hand. Matagorda County Judge and NPI Director Attend a Meeting of the Infrastructure Development Working Group in Slovenia

Matagorda County Judge Nate MacDonald and NPI Director Lee Peddicord stand in front of the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant, a two loop Westinghouse reactor in Krsko, Slovenia. They were there as part of the meeting of the Infrastructure Development Working Group (IDWG), a component of the 31 nation International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC), that took place on November 14-15, 2012 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. STUDENT HIGHLIGHT: ECHS POWER SET Got Milk

El Campo FFA's, State winning, Dairy Judging team competed at the 85th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana during the week of October 22, 2012. The team consisted of POWER SET members Allison Fucik and Korie Couvillion in addition to Danielle Valenta and Marshall Mach. Their FFA Advisor/Coach is Mr. Shawn Peters. POWER SET Starting Off Strong in Fort Bend County

Foster High School inducted thirty-one juniors into the school's first year of POWER SET. Foster held the induction ceremony in their auditorium with over 100 students, parents, faculty and community members in attendance. The girls posed for a group photo proudly displaying their POWER SET pearls which they received at the induction ceremony. POWER SET Members Attend a Resume Writing and Interviewing Techniques Workshop at Sweeny Refinery

October 31, 2012

In October 2012, 140 high school students from area schools attended a Resume Writing and Interviewing Techniques workshop at the refinery. These young women learned how to prepare a professional resume, as well as how to prepare for a successful interview. After watching short skits demonstrating a "good" interview and a "poor" interview, they interviewed each other to practice these skil1s.
