Nuclear Power Institute Hosting 2nd Annual Science on Saturday (SOS) at Wharton County Junior College

Science on Saturday (SOS) is a science program for the young (K-6) and young at heart. The program will highlight cutting-edge science happening at universities and national laboratories through interactive, hands-on activities that include fun with dry ice, life-sized bubbles, and liquid nitrogen. The program will be led by local STEM educators and high school students sponsored by the Nuclear Power Institute and supported by Phillips 66 and Wharton County Junior College. Christmas in the Lab

The science labs at Bay City High School were the scene for "Christmas in the Lab" on December 13. Cherry Elementary POWER GRID and BRT students and their parents were treated to holiday snacks and then taken into the labs for a series of hands-on scientific experiments with a holiday "theme." STUDENT HIGHLIGHT: GHS Girls Inducted into POWER SET

Seventeen Granbury High School girls became the first inductees into POWER SET, a new student organization focused on science, engineering, and technology. The ceremony was held November 15, 2012, in the Bagby-McMahan Performing Arts Center. STUDENT HIGHLIGHT: WIT Explores Career Opportunities

The Workforce Industry Training (WIT) program students at BCHS have attended two events sponsored by Phillips 66. One was on October 24th over Electrical and Instrumentation careers and another on November 7th over Pipefitting and Welding careers. At each event employees from Phillips 66 set up stations to explain their jobs/crafts/trades. Sweeny Refinery Holds Career Nights for WIT Students

In Fall 2012, Sweeny Refinery held Career Nights for WIT students from local high schools spotlighting careers in Electrical, Instrumentation, Pipefitting and Welding. Refinery employees shared information with the students about their crafts, including what they do on a typical work day and demonstrated "hands-on" techniques they use in work assignments.
