Visit to East Side for Lunch with Power GRID

On November 22, 2013, POWER SET members from Palacios High School traveled to East Side to have their first lunch with their Power GRID mentees. This was a very exciting day for both POWER SET and Power GRID because it was the first face to face meeting that the new mentors and mentees had with one another, as well as a welcomed reunion for the veteran mentors and mentees who have not seen each other as frequently due to summer. POWER SET Inducts New Members

Sweeny High School On Monday, November 4th, eight young ladies from Sweeny High School were inducted into POWER SET for the 2013-2014 school year. Members are selected on scholarship, citizenship, and leadership skills. Friends, family, and community members were invited to a reception in the high school cafeteria immediately following the ceremony. Palacios High School POWER SET Members Visit STP

November 4, 2013

On Thursday, October 31st, PHS POWERSET traveled to STP to tour the facilities, learn about potential careers in the nuclear power field, and visit with their mentors. The young ladies first toured the control room simulator, learning about how operators keep STP up a running due to "procedures." Procedures for everything, including non-operators, are the key to the success of STP. Many high school students do not know - or have thought about - what they will do when they graduate. Some have never visited a college, and are not aware of college choices. Most don't understand that there could be career opportunities in their own backyard. These two very fortunate WIT (Workforce Industry Training) members were selected to participate in the Phillips 66 Job Shadowing Program this month.
