Palacios High School POWER SET Travels to the Meadows Aquarena and Texas State University

On Friday, February 21st, Palacios High School (PHS) POWER SET traveled to The Meadows Aquarena and Texas State University. At the Aquarena, the girls were given a general tour of the wetlands, aquarium, and a glass bottom boat tour of the spring. Along with seeing the history of the location and a few of the endangered species that reside in the spring (the Texas Blind Salamander being one of them), they were divided into groups and had to decide if the water in the spring was polluted or not based on the plant and animal life found in their sample. Nuclear Power Institute Hosting 3rd Annual Science on Saturday (SOS)

Science on Saturday (SOS) is an exciting science program for the young (K-6) and young at heart. The event will highlight fun and educational science experiments and demonstrations of atmospheric pressure, sensory stimulation, environmental effects, and much more. Students will learn through interactive, hands-on activities that include fun with polymers, magnets, and neurons, as well as everyday products and household materials. Christmas in the Lab

Fifth graders in Jackie Ramsey's Cherry Elementary classes attended the Bay City High School "Christmas in the Lab" event on December 16, 2014. BCHS POWERSET and WIT students lead the elementary students through a rotation of labs set up in the BCHS science lab area. In one experiment the fifth graders made "slime," using borax, glue, water and dye in a chemical reaction. In another lab they made "gold pennies" by using heat, zinc, sodium hydroxide, and distilled water. A third lab had the students creating holiday ornaments. Palacios High School POWER SET Members Attend WISE Conference at Texas State University

On Friday, November 22, 2013, 5 PHS POWERSET members attended the annual WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Conference at Texas State in San Marcos. "WISE focuses on women's accomplishments in science and engineering and seeks to narrow the gender gap in participation in those fields." The conference was opened up by a plenary address by Dr. Misty Rowe, a cement specialist at Halliburton.
