The Center for Teaching Excellence at Texas A&M University held its inaugural Aggies Celebrate Teaching! - Recognizing Transformational Learningreception on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The call for nominations received over 60 submissions. Students across all colleges wrote heart-felt essays giving evidence of and reflecting upon the professor's impact on their learning and lives. Palacios POWER SET Attends STP Career Event and Visits Phillips 66 Corporate Office

May has been a busy month for the Palacios High School POWER SET group. On May 4th, members attended STP's Career Event where members from many of the local POWER SET and WIT groups were able to collaborate to build a Rubes Goldberg machine and then were given the opportunity to meet with STP employees from many different areas to discuss their careers. Palacios WIT Tours WCJC's Nuclear Power Technology Program

Palacios WIT students traveled to Wharton County Junior College in Bay City to tour their facility and to learn about the different types of programs that are available for students. Under the Nuclear Power Technology associates degree program available at WCJC, students learned about the different paths they could take to achieve the degree including: Non-Licensed Operator, Electrical Technician, Instrumentation & Control Technician, and Mechanical Technician. Nuclear Power Institute Hosted STEM Family Night at Granbury High School

Granbury High School's WIT and POWER SET students hosted the 1st STEM Family Night on April 10th, 2017. The event, sponsored by the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI), highlighted fun, educational, and interactive STEM activities. STEM Family Night is an exciting event designed to ignite an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The event is geared to be interesting to all ages and will highlight fun and educational activities and demonstrations. WIT and BRT Build-A-Boat Competition

April 14, 2017

On Wednesday, April 12, 2017 Palacios High School WIT students met with their BRT mentees from East Side Intermediate to participate in the first Build-A-Boat competition. Students had to work together to design, fabricate and float their boats across the pool using different engineering concepts and keeping in mind buoyancy. The boats were built out of a limited supply of card board, duct tape, and pool noodles. Students had to race across the pool, keeping their boat afloat and trying to get the fastest time.
