NSSPI has worked with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the NNSA's International Nuclear Safeguards and Engagement Program (INSEP) to provide advice to Egypt on peaceful uses of the ETRR-1 and ETRR-2 research reactors.

Existing contacts with the management of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) were recently  expanded.  NPI and NSSPI staff met with delegates from Ghana at the IAEA and discussed a possible cooperative activity on human resources development for the sun-Sahara countries, in which Ghana would be a host of a long term education and training program under the IAEA/ US-Peaceful Uses Initiative.  The idea was well received by the Ghanaian delegates. They recalled that GAEC in association  with the University of Ghana, already hosts an IAEA National Nuclear Support Center for education and training on nuclear security. 

NPI hosted and organized a month-long training experience for 29 professionals from Kenya in an intensive workshop titled "Requirements for a Comprehensive Introduction to Nuclear Power" from July 9 through August 8, 2012.  Faculty and staff members from NSSPI and the Department of Nuclear Engineering participated in training the group.

NSSPI has worked with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the NNSA's International Nuclear Safeguards and Engagement Program (INSEP) on improving radioisotope production and neutron activation analysis at the Tajura Research Reactor in Libya.

NSSPI provided support to Morroco through Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the NNSA's International Nuclear Safeguards and Engagement Program (INSEP) on safeguards and security for their new research reactor.

Before the last IAEA General Conference the Chairman of FNRBA (Forum of Nuclear regulatory Body in Africa) expressed interest of collaboration with NSSPI in areas of mutual interest and proposed that a MOU be signed to this effect during the IAEA General Conference (GC).  At the GC we discussed the areas of possible collaboration within the mandate of FNRBA (Safety and Security) as NSSPI interest is focused on nuclear security policy and applications.  We proposed consideration of a Letter of Intent, and it was agreed.  This letter is now under preparation and if all parties agree we envisage signing this document with FNRBA during the next GC. The Forum Chairman was invited to visit TAMU-NSSPI to further discuss the collaboration.
